How It Works
Text Reader Free uses the Web Speech API, a speech synthesis technology built into modern web browsers like Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox. When you paste or type text and press play, your browser's built-in voice engine converts the words into natural-sounding speech — all locally on your device. No data is sent to any server, which means your content stays 100% private.
We've spent hundreds of hours fine-tuning the experience beyond what the raw API provides. Our custom highlighting engine synchronizes visual word tracking with the spoken audio in real time, so you can follow along as each sentence is read. We've also added features like Focus Mode for distraction-free reading, PDF import for document listening, AI-powered text simplification, and support for 20+ languages with multiple voice options per language.
